Job Summary:
Functions as a business support person to the plant and financial management team. The Cost Accountant is responsible for plant level cost control including cost accounting, bill of material audits, product costing, and cost analysis. This position supports month-end close and special projects as requested. Works closely with manufacturing to understand issues and how they impact the financial results as well as educate/inform department(s) on cost drivers and variances.
- Interacts with Engineering department to ensure Bills of Materials (BOM) are accurate and up to date and remake/rework is kept at a profitable level.
- Review and audit BOM’s to ensure they reflect the latest manufacturing practices.
- Work with the finance department to implement and apply cost accounting policies and procedures to various departments as they are required to ensure DARRAN’s profitability.
- Support CFO’s efforts for implementing and maintaining internal controls for operations, purchasing, sales, engineering, and finance.
- Analyze actual labor, material, and overhead cost against Standard/Budget. Research and explain variances. Report this information in daily labor reports and monthly summaries.
- Coordinate with CFO on development of new labor and overhead rates, budget, and forecasts.
- Perform continuous product/plant cost analysis to support the operations.
- Prepare product costing on new lines based on material and labor cost estimates. Regularly reevaluate these costs to ensure that any adjustments are made for increase in materials or adjustments to labor costs.
- Coordinate with Purchasing and Inventory Control to participate in physical inventory and cycle counts. Investigate variances with Purchasing and assist in the resolution.
- Review freight calculators and analyze actual freight costs versus included costs.
- Assist Sales with project discounting based on proposed freight savings and other efficiencies gained.
- Additional responsibilities include custom product costing and design. Assisting Customer Service and Sales by creating a Quick-Quote manual, giving Customer Service the ability to price out easy modifications to customers.
- At least 2 years Cost Accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting preferred.
- Strong Cost systems background and excellent analytical skills; sound understanding of accounting principles.
- Familiarity with furniture components a plus.
